The Riverside Park at Rainham is unique for its tidal reed beds, both on the shallows of the Medway and the creek at Upchurch.  Birds can bee seen there, Terns, Gulls, Brent's Geese, Herons, Avocets and ducks.

The site has the wonderful attribute of flocks of birds flying at near high tide and if you are lucky, especially in the autumn, you will see them catch the lowering sunlight and flash through the blue sky or across the water.

The park is a popular dog walking area which for many is a rare contact with birds they may not otherwise see in their urban living areas.

A great sight, even in the cold.

A valid reason also for not allowing an airport to be built close by.
